Review: I thought this movie was compelling. It did start a little slow, but soon afterwards caught my full attention. I had expected to change mental gears a Pitch Black sequel / clone, but not in a bad way at all. And it's tie-ins with Pitch Black clearly visible, unless you arent particularly observant or not seen Pitch Black. I thought the special effects were some of the best I have seen in a very long time, and after that I started getting more involved custom background story, I found it fascinating. I felt that the characters had some depth to them. Enough for me little care about any of them anyway, and Riddick was somewhat less of a cardboard cut-out, and a slightly more complicated in this movie. Some of the action scenes are quite impressive. I find it very disappointing that this did not do better in theaters, and plan my rent to be. A purchase I hope they continue the series with the following? or two? films that are rumored to next. Those who enjoyed the movie even disappointing, I would think would be: 1) Hardcore sci-fi or action movie fans that too much time spent in making mental comparisons to his favorite storyline / universe, or act in of a star movie to really just enjoy the movie. 2) People who just wanted to correct the action without all the intricate details of a sci-fi story. 3) People expect a sequel to black that does not grow or expand on the story or characters, which could turn gears.I took this movie as this movie Pitch, and enjoyed it. I have not had any filmmaking mental comparisons with other sci-fi or action movies or bring the stars. Yes some of his ideas have been used before. So what? Was an idea used by ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. Sanitary Should we not use bind, because someone else used it before? If you are at all times during the film making comparisons, so you can not give the film the full attention it deserves. For someone who likes a good sci-fi action movie with a little thought behind it, and has no sacred Grail to compare, I would recommend this.
